Procrastination and Simple Ways to Fight It

In this article, you will learn about procrastination and simple ways to fight it. A grasshopper was singing, dancing and having fun on a hot summer afternoon when it saw a family of ants passing by. They seemed to be toiling hard in the heat, each carrying a heavy corn kernel on their back. The grasshopper, who was in a playful mood, asked one of the ants to stop by and play with him. Hearing this, the ant advised him to stop playing and start collecting food for the winters. The grasshopper didn’t heed to her advice and continued to sing and dance. He thought that the winters were very far away and there was enough time for him to collect food for storage. Meanwhile, the ants toiled every day and collected a big heap of food in a few months.

Soon, it started to snow and the grasshopper was unable to dig the ground for food. Not to mention that he had not collected a single morsel of food for the winters. Hungry and devastated, he approached the ants for help. However, they mocked at him for procrastinating and not working hard while there was time. The grasshopper died of hunger in a few days.

Does this story relate to you? Don’t we all procrastinate some time or the other only to realize and repent upon the lost opportunity later? So, What Can be Done? How can we stop Procrastinating

Promise Yourself:

Give yourself a word that you will not delay things any further. Whatever has to be done will be done now. Once you give yourself your word, you cannot afford to falter on it. Think of the benefits: Remind yourself of the benefits you will earn by doing it on time – appreciation at work, stress-free routine, a better relationship, improved health and most important- mental satisfaction.

Get Organized:

Not being organized at your task can give you a sense of anxiety and make you procrastinate things that may be very simple to accomplish but not scheduled/portrayed well.

Break the Task:

Tasks that look big and overwhelming are more likely to get procrastinated. Break them into smaller bits and put them on a daily/hourly schedule.
